American Theocracy

Time to start some blogging again.

I intend to read Kevin Phillips new book American Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21st Century myself. I have long been impressed with his skill as an analyst of American politics.

I therefore read with interest the discussion about the book found on the TPM Café web site. In particular, I liked this post by Michelle Goldberg. It provides brief but compelling insights into the power of the Christian right within the Republican Party. She sums it up thus:

A dedicated and organized movement of politicized fundamentalists is reshaping American life. They are a minority, even among American evangelicals. But they are the minority that controls the grassroots of the political party that in turn controls the country.
